love in a mist

i went a little garden crazy the other day at my parents' house. while the kids played in the sprinkler, i puttered around photographing everything in sight. part of my plan for the summer is to get to know my camera a little better, so i tried playing with my settings + macro a bit. it's going to take some time, but my parents' garden is a pretty good place to play. here is a series of shots of my mom's favourite, love-in-a-mist.

normally i'm deathly afraid of spiders, but for some reason daddy long legs don't really bother me. maybe it's the long skinny legs, i'm definitely more afraid of a thick hairy spider leg. even writing that made me shiver. anyhow, i liked how this little guy looked nestled in the equally spindly leaves of the love-in-a-mist.

Great shots! And yes, it makes a huge difference if you take the time to get to know your camera — so many peeps buy a schmancy SLR and then keep it on "automatic" the whole time. Looks like you have a handle on the macro setting ;)

m - so true, i need to remind myself to turn off autofocus and have fun! i'd like to get a bigger lens in the future, maybe for christmas ;)

aha. so that's what those are. i've often wondered in the Autumn what those seed pods looked like in Summer bloom. so pretty.
